Abigail Williams - Classical Ballet and Contemporary

Technical Teaching assistant Grade 1 and 2

Hi my name is Abigail; I’ve been with the Big Dance Company now for 3 years and currently working towards my CSTD diploma taking my grade 5 ballet, Jazz 5 and level 2 contemporary exams in December. I’m also taking GCSE dance at school.
I am a member of Aspire Company, I train for around 11 hours per week in addition to training at
the Big Dance Company I also continue to train and self develop at home.
I have been assisting Miss Shanna ballet grade 1 and 2 and contemporary foundation on
a Friday evening for 3 hours per week.
Initially I started assisting to support my Duke of Edinburgh volunteering section but have loved
helping Miss Shanna with her classes and helping the students develop their techniques and exam work it has given me a lot more confidence and would love to continue assisting the younger student and to be a good role model for them.
I’ve been lucky enough over the last year to also travel internationally attending Dance excellence in LA, Malaysia to take classes in ballet, traditionally Chinese dance and flexibility and most recently a dance competition in the Netherlands competing in Lyrical and for the first time ballet and the Philippines taking classes in ballet, hip hop, jazz and lyrical.
These international trips have been a great experience for me not only learning from some of the best dancer teachers in the world but also the cultural experience have been amazing and have loved meeting new friends.

Rosie Laskey - Classical Ballet

Pre-school Assistant Trainee Ballet teacher.

Heya my name is Rosie Laskey and I have been at the Big Dance Company for 11 years now and I working towards my classical Ballet Diploma and Contempoary certification.

When I teach I feel like a weight comes off my shoulders. It is something that I really enjoy and I love to do.

Probably all my life I have been wanting to become a dance teacher. So many people in the industry have inspired me and I would love to do similar things as them. I have had multiple opportunities to travel the world and assist in different places, this has really helped me learn and grow as a training teacher.

I love spending time with all different ages of children as they all have a different personality, which brings light to the studio.

I’m ever so grateful to be part of the Big Dance Company assistant teaching team, it is a privilege to see all of the students grow into incredible people.

I have been an assistant at BDC since 2015 and currently assist in the Little acorns, Jazz and Acrobatic juniors, level 1 and level 2.

I love assisting as it is rewarding when your student gets a goal that they have been working really hard to get, and you also get to see the journey and progress of each student and be part of it with them.

Esha Dawson  - Lyrical trainee choreographer , International assistant and Pre school dollies assistant

Hia, I’m Esha from the Big Dance Company and I’ve been training here for about 6 years now. Assisting  and teaching really builds up that relationship with the younger students and allows me to watch them grow- It’s such a privilege and really pushes me to work, succeed and inspire. In 2016 and 2019 I flew the Halili Cruz School of Ballet in the Philippines to assist lyrical classes and further my ballet training during a months intensive. Im currently working on my first ballet exam major, sub elementary, jazz grade 7 and level 3 contemporary working towards my diploma; along with many competitions, conventions, auditions and professional gigs along the way.

Jago Mottart   - Trainee choreographer commercial and contemporary.

Hi, my name is Jago and I'm 16.

I joined BDC as a 6 year old, starting with street dance.  Since those early days I've developed my training in contemporary and commercial as well as jazz and ballet.

I was introduced to Lukas McFarlane through BDC and have since taken part in all four of his SEEDs training programmes in London and have recently returned from filming his latest concept video.

I've been given a number of opportunities with BDC. Some of these include travelling to Malaysia when I was 12 to take part in an international dance festival. I was awarded a scholarship to attend TD Italy at 14 years old, where I danced alongside top choreographers such as Brian Friedman.  I have also taken part in many paid gigs and charity work as a part of South West Movement.

I was cast in Matthew Bourne's Romeo and Juliet, a prime national production, which gave me insight into life as a professional dancer, performing seven times over five days to an audience of 2,500 each show.

For my future training I will be taking up a scholarship place at Urdang Academy in September 2020, studying Musical Theatre.

As well as dancing myself I also enjoy choreographing work and BDC has allowed me to develop this aspect. I wouldn't have been able to achieve any of my successes without the support and love I've been given over the years by Fiona and the other teachers at BDC.

Hi my name is Lennox I am 16 years old and have been dancing at BDC since I was 5 years old.

The past 11 years dancing has given me so many incredible opportunities and life changing memories. I have travelled to L.A, China, South Africa, Holland and all over the UK competing and learning from industry professionals.

I currently assist Kyle Richardson with the Akademy syllabus which teaches the fundamental hip hop techniques all the way from beginner up to teaching qualifications. II am working towards my teaching certificate with BDC with the UDO syllabus and I am looking forward to all the future achievements I can experience in the next chapter of my dance life. I love teaching and working with new dancers and helping them find their confidence.
